Stark singing on my screen. It doesn't get much better than that, except maybe watching him do musical theater live again.
LJ's being difficult and it won't let me put the link up. I'll try again later.

ACTA in a Nutshell –
What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.
Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”
What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Say NO to ACTA. It is essential to spread awareness and get the word out on ACTA.

Mississippi is voting on November 8th on whether to pass Amendment 26, the "Personhood Amendment". This amendment would grant fertilized eggs and fetuses personhood status.
Putting aside the contentious issue of abortion, this would effectively outlaw birth control and criminalize women who have miscarriages. This is not a good thing.
Jackson Women's Health Organization is the only place women can get abortions in the entire state, and they are trying to launch a grassroots movement against this amendment. This doesn't just apply to Mississippi, though, as Personhood USA, the group that introduced this amendment, is trying to introduce identical amendments in all 50 states.
What's more, in Mississippi, this amendment is expected to pass. It even has Mississippi Democrats, including the Attorney General, Jim Hood, backing it.
The reason I'm posting this here is because I made a meager donation to the Jackson Women's Health Organization this morning, and I received a personal email back hours later - on a Sunday - thanking me and noting that I'm one of the first "outside" people to contribute.
So if you sometimes pass on political action because you figure that enough other people will do something to make a difference, make an exception on this one. My RSS reader is near silent on this amendment. I only found out about it through a feminist blog. The mainstream media is not reporting on it.
If there is ever a time to donate or send a letter in protest, this would be it.
What to do?
- Read up on it. Wake Up, Mississippi is the home of the grassroots effort to fight this amendment. Daily Kos also has a thorough story on it.
- If you can afford it, you can donate at the site's link.
- You can contact the Democratic National Committee to see why more of our representatives aren't speaking out against this.
- Like this Facebook page to help spread awareness.

I seem to be all about reblogging lately, but this was just too important not to. Not being in USA or being American doesn't really matter. It's a womanhood issue.

Our novel Stranger has five viewpoint characters; one, Yuki Nakamura, is
gay and has a boyfriend. Yuki's romance, like the heterosexual ones in
the novel, involves nothing more explicit than kissing.
An agent from a major agency, one which represents a bestselling YA novel in the same genre as ours, called us.
The agent offered to sign us on the condition that we make the gay
character straight, or else remove his viewpoint and all references to
his sexual orientation.
This isn't about that specific agent; we'd gotten other rewrite requests before this one. Previous agents had also offered to take a second look if we did rewrites… including cutting the viewpoint of Yuki, the gay character.
It's time to stand up and demand change. Spread the word everywhere if you are just as angry and outraged by this.
* I've been having issues with White collar as well which is sad, because that show is usually a happy place. But between how they're handling Sarah's character and the treasure storyline they're really trying my patience.
* Something that I enjoyed was Easy A. A bit late to the party, as usual, but it was a fun, light movie and Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci are the greatest ever.
* Two recs: I'm reading two WIPs at the X-Men:first class meme that are the most wonderful stories I've read lately. They're so good they made me break my rule about not getting into WIPs from kinkmemes anymore. Boden's Mate is an Inception AU totally made of win, with spot on characterizations even without any of the characters being mutants. And even more awesome is Limited release, a kind of White collar AU, but really so much more. The plot is fantastic, the characterization are a pleasure to read and the pacing is pitch perfect. Both are several thousand words long and nowhere near done.
* I'm leaving for San Francisco tomorrow on my vacation (finally). I'm so looking forward to seeing the city. I've wanted to visit since forever and never got to it till now. I'm soo happy and I so needed this vacation.
* I haven't done recs in a long time, so I have another two. These are wonderful Inception crossovers. Both original, unexpected and so much fun. Skybird with White Collar. And Secretly a reef rat, with Hawaii 5-0, which I don't watch or like but was still made awesome by
* I'm looking forward to checking out Suits, Alphas and the new season of True blood. It's the first time in years I've had so many shows to watch this time of year and I have zero time to watch them. My vacation starts in a little over a month though, so that should give me the chance to catch up.
* Askars on my TV every week again. Can't wait. (yes, this gets its own bullet point).

* X-Men: first class. A friend invited me to a premiere and we went to see it yesterday. IT WAS MADE OF AWESOME. Really. I had zero expectations so it was a nice surprise. I had so much fun and it pushed absolutely all of my buttons in terms of the kinds of stories I like. Michael Fassbender was great as Magneto. I don't know, it's been ages since I had this much fun in a movie. It had its issues, like the whole superhero genre has, especially with female characters, but it wasn't so much that it killed my utter glee at the whole thing.
* Planning my vacation. This year I'm finally traveling to San Francisco. It's been on my to do list for a couple of years now and I hadn't gotten to it, but I'm finally decided. I don't have that much set yet, except that I'm going at the beginning of august and that I'm swinging by A's new apartment in DC along the way. It's not exactly practical, but she already told me I couldn't visit the states without going to see her. I figure is as good excuse as any.
* Season three of White collar and the new season of SYTYCD. Summers used to be pretty barren of TV for me, but now I have shiny shiny new seasons and shows to entertain myself. Season four of True blood should be fun as well. I have mixed feelings toward the show and I think it's pretty terrible in a lot of ways but Eric and Pam make all of the suckiness worth it.
* The bonus tracks of Vices and Virtues and Brendon and Spencer's antics on their current tour. They're so ridiculous and endearing, they never fail to make me smile. The bonus tracks were a nice surprise. I didn't think I'd like them this much, but I've been hearing them non stop for the last week.

* I'm going to LA in a couple of weeks for work and I'm pretty happy about it. I don't really like the city much, because I can't get over the fact no one walks there, but I think I'm getting myself the Generation Kill DVDs as an early Christmas present so that's exciting. It's so funny because I've been so obsessed with it lately and just in time HBO is going to rerun it here, one episode a day, from dec 2.
* I wanted to do recs from
* I went to see The social network the other day and not surprisingly (I love David Fincher and Aaron Sorkin's work) I loved it. I was surprised that I found it so funny and that I liked Armie Hammer so much. He was absolutely fantastic as the twins. Andrew Garfield I adored, but I knew I would because he's made of awesome. Also, there's fic, which I didn't expect to like or felt there was a need, but it goes to show I know nothing because this was wonderful and everything I didn't know I wanted after the movie. It's Mark and Eduardo slowly finding their way back to each other, done flawlessly.
